Big Changes

Hey everyone! Sorry for my very long absence from this blog. Lot’s has happened. I got a new job on the other side of the country and made the 3000 mile cross-country move last month. It all happened very quickly! That’s the short version, I’ll likely fill you all in on the details in a later post.

In any event, this is very exciting because now I have a whole new area to explore! Where am I now, you ask? None other than our nation’s capital, Washington, DC! So get ready for new content coming to you from the tri-state area of Northern Virginia, DC, & Maryland!

Last week I went to Eastern Market and I happened upon the BEST little vegan food vendor there, Zoe’s Vegan Delight! OMG you guys, she had the most delicious vegan mac & cheese I’ve. ever. had. She also was selling and sampling red beans & rice, BBQ Tofu sandwiches, and Steak & Cheese sandwiches. I had the Steak & Cheese and it was DELICIOUS!!

Confession Time: I don’t like seitan. It’s always either overly chewy or overly tough. I don’t care for the texture at all and I’m not too crazy about the taste either. It always feels like a big wad of dough in my mouth. Eww. Sorry vegan police, I know everyone is all about the “hail seitan” but I just can’t get down with that.

However! Zoe’s Steak & Cheese sandwich (made with seitan) made a believer out of me. She is doing it RIGHT because her seitan steak strips were on point. The texture was amazing, the flavor was peppery and savory… godblessamericaitwassogood.

I was too busy stuffing my face to take pictures, but you best believe I’m going to track Ms. Zoe down again and (this time) take lots of pictures of her incredible food. That lady has got talent.

  1. Hello Very New Vegan!!!!! This is very exciting to me because I’m in Maryland. Your blog will definitely put me back on the Vegan side. I must find Zoe!!!

    • Yay Denise! I think Ms. Zoe is a regular or semi – regular food vendor at Eastern Market Farmer’s Market on Saturdays and Sundays. Just take the metro to the Eastern Market stop and it’s all right there! Comment and let me know you found it!
