Dad’s Perfect Not-Mushy Oatmeal

Here is my dad’s recipe for the perfect oatmeal!  This ain’t no mushy, inedible, anemic looking porridge. This is flash steamed perfect oatmeal!!

The quick cooking process allows the oat to retain its beautiful shape. The oats are simply lightly softened to make a beautiful little fluffy, nutrient rich & delicious meal for breakfast or a soothing low-fat nighttime snack. Add your favorite sliced fruit, some agave nectar, and non-dairy milk for a healthy and sweet-tooth satisfying treat.

Ingredients

1 Cup Dry Rolled Oats

About 3 Cups Water

Pinch of Salt

Directions-

1. Fill a large sautee pan with about 1 in of lightly salted water, bring to a boil.

2. Once boiling, pour in the desired amount of plain oats (1 cup?) into the water. Gently sautee-shake the pan to make sure the oats are all covered with the boiling water.

3. Immediately turn off the burner, let oats sit for about 30 seconds-1 minute. The oats should be slightly softened but still holding their individual shape. They should look pretty much the same as raw oats, only slightly larger due to a bit of water retention.

4. Strain the oats through a wire mesh strainer to discard excess water. Serve immediately!

    • That’s a great question! Honestly, I just use plain Quaker. I get a huge tub from Costco and eat oatmeal for like a month 🙂
